General Insurance - Reporting From the
Scene of Accident
Several public safety agencies have started on-site accident reports.
Now property insurance industry is collecting information in the form of a
picture of the vehicle and scene of accident. This information is sent
to the claims processing center for faster turnaround. Kemper Insurance
Company of Jacksonville, Kentucky in USA has started piloting such an
application in 2000. Kemper asked ActivePhoto, a provider of wireless
digital imaging application, and Flashpoint Technology Inc., to create
a wireless camera system that lets property adjusters take pictures in the
field and transmit them to the claims processing center.
Kemper uses Kodak DC290 cameras loaded with
ActivePhoto software and connected to FlashPoint Data Platform. The cameras
are linked to Motorola StarTac data-enabled cellular phone which wirelessly
sends the information to database hosted by ActivePhoto and accessible by
Kemper.
The insurance company is using the system
with nine property adjusters based in Sacramento, California - will expand
to 40 adjusters soon. There is a strong business case especially with
reduced or delays and elimination of film processing with conventional
methods.
