Developed by WKMN (WK Training Multimedia Network), and
presented in Macromedia Flash, the course is set up in modules.
The overview is concise and to the point, providing enough
information so as not to lose or confuse anyone, but not so
overly verbose as to lull the viewer to sleep. The ensuing
modules cover topics ranging from an Introduction to Wireless
Networks and Mobile Telephony, to LANs, WANs and PANs; defined
and described in language that is easy to understand for even
the most casual computer user. Each module covers detailed
information regarding its specific subject matter. The highly
graphical nature of the presentation, along with audio
description, provides reinforcement for any text the viewer
reads. Combining brief presentations, overviews, crossword
puzzles and other interactive games, along with a brief quiz for
each module results in success. The end user gains much insight
into the technology covered in the module and comes away with a
reasonable understanding of how it works. If that isn't enough,
WKMN provides links to other resources on the Internet, with
detailed information regarding specific subject matter.
System requirements for using this tutorial are acceptable.
The viewer doesn't have to be using the latest, most up to date
hardware and software available (a 4.x browser version, 64 Mb
ram, a sound card and speakers and a Flash Plug-in isn't too
much to ask). The only real drawback we could find was that a
minimum connection of DSL is required. WKMN states that a 56K
modem version is in the works. - is available know -

At $60 for a 6 month license, the cost isn't out of line
either. The information that is presented leaves the viewer with
a good basic understanding of how wireless technology is
advancing in the marketplace today. For the viewer that wants a
more in depth understanding of wireless technology, there are
links within each module, that lead the viewer to more technical
information.
Over-all, A Newbie's Guide to Wireless Networks is an
intuitive, educational and entertaining Online Training Course.
WKMN has used a feature rich multi-media application to deliver
content, not fluff and drivel. The creators took great pains to
ensure that the presentation is about Wireless Networking and
not a showcase for how glitzy they could be (kudos to that
development team). Whether you are completely new to Wireless
Networking, or an industry insider looking for a quick refresher
course, we rate A Newbie's Guide to Wireless Networks a
"Mobile-MustHave".
