"On November 18, 2002, Dell officially put its hat in the
handheld device ring. Dell is no ordinary ring master. Therefore, the
interested onlookers are keenly watching the show as it enters this new act.
It is not the features of the new devices announced by Dell that is
important. It is the price points and the preferred OS of the devices that
are significant. Palm had hoped that its price advantage Pocket PC devices
might give it the margins it needs to feed its future R&D. Dell does not
spend money on technology R&D. It is masterful in commoditizing and
optimizing virtual manufacturing processes. It eliminates intermediaries and
provides a rationalization for standardization in the enterprise. We think
that Dell's entry has tilted the balance further in Pocket PC's favour. Palm
will have to run harder." - Chander Dhawan More
