The price tag was $50,000 US - basically unaffordable. Now with Motorola and GM weight behind this effort, price will come down because of the standardization of mechanical components in the vehicle. We think these added features should not cost more than $5000 to the price of car. We would ask user organizations to persuade the big players to give them customization capability to allow a device and a wireless modem of choice to be fitted into receptacles otherwise it will be an expensive proprietary solution. Let GM work with mount designers (aka third party developers) to move this industry forward. So should Motorola. They can get their royalty fee.
