MERGERS,
AGREEMENTS AND INVESTMENTS Feb 24 - Palm Computing puts its hat in the ring with color version of Palm Pilot IIIc at CeBit 2000 event in Hanover. But in all other respects, the device retains the simplicity of functions of old device. Palm Computing has officially announced its Spring product line, including the much anticipated Palm IIIc organizer which features color screen technology. The Palm IIIc has an active matrix TFT colour screen capable of displaying 256 colors, 8 Mb of RAM and the latest version of Motorola's DragonBall processor. It also features version 3.5 of the PalmOS, which includes enhancements to the traditional Palm applications such as Date Book and HotSync. However, Palm has once again done little to alter the overall Palm Computing platform experience, preferring to maintain the simplicity and elegance which has seen Palm sell more than 5m devices. The IIIc, priced at $449, is joined by the Palm IIIxe, a grey-scale organizer with 8 Mb of RAM and Palm OS 3.5. For more info, go to Palm site. MobileInfo Advisory and Comments: Palm Computing has the right strategy of keeping the device simple and let the advancements in battery life, simplicity of work processes and desire to perform most common tasks easily dictate its product enhancements strategy. It is for this reason colorful Windows CE devices have made lesser inroads into the pockets of sales force. Note:
