MERGERS, AGREEMENTS AND INVESTMENTS

February 7 -- Symbol Technologies and Epic Data Partner on Java-Based Wireless Manufacturing Solutions:   ERP, SCM and Integrated Data Collection Targeted Application

Symbol Technologies and Epic Data International announced that they will be  co-developing a new integrated data collection and enterprise solution incorporating Java-based wireless technology for the manufacturing marketplace.

With it being portable, secure and platform-neutral, Java provides a single solution for either  internal and external ERP (enterprise resource planning) or SCM (supply change management) needs found in the manufacturing sector.

Epic Data’s successful track-record of enabling Java for both back-end and mobile computer applications in various ERP (enterprise resource planning) environments is a plus for Symbol who now sees an opportunity to incorporate Java-based wireless technology into its mobile computing products and expand the scope of Java-based applications.

With this partnership, manufacturing enterprises will probably see an increase commitment to introducing Java and Internet-based technologies into ADC (automated data collection), mobile and wireless solutions.

MobileInfo Advisory and Comments: We are glad to see Symbol use Java into applications areas where they have core competency both in terms of infrastructure components and business process know-how.  We encourage other vendors to follow because it is a big market and there is room for several large vendors.
