IBM Embedded Java Developing Tool to Support Palm OS

IBM announced that its VisualAge® Micro Edition v 1.1 now includes additional tools and components needed to develop applications that rely on Palm OS®. VisualAge Micro is a development tool for embedded systems, which are small computer platforms that make up larger products, such as automobiles, smart phones and PDAs. These embedded systems also allow products to connect via the Internet to larger systems.

The VisualAge Micro Edition Personal Package includes:

  • The latest integrated development tools for creating and debugging embedded Java applications on Palm devices.
  • The J9 Virtual Machine that supports Palm handhelds.
  • A runtime environment for Palm OS-based Java applications.

Advanced Features of the integrated development environment are:

  • The ability to build and test applications with a singe button press.
  • A program editor that provides a consistent window into source development through features such as direct code assist.
  • The ability of developers to debug applications on their workstations using emulation software from Palm.

VisualAge Micro Edition Personal Package can be downloaded at: http://www.ibm.com/software/ad/embedded. It is licensed for free deployment on IBM WorkPad and Palm III, V and VII devices.
