Working in conjunction with HMS’s TimeControl timekeeping client/server system, Time Control Express will allow users to quickly and easily update their activity-based timesheets regardless of location. By pressing the synchronization button on the handheld’s cradle, the user will be able to transfer data back and forth between the handheld device and the TimeControl database via the Personal transaction Server (a new module of TimeControl system).

TimeControl Express is written in Java kilobyte virtual machine (KVM), a light-weight version of Java designed for handhelds. It measures in at 36kb and the Java kernel only adds another 80kb, making it a very tight design. By using this architecture, HMS is able to use the same code for most devices, including the Pocket PC, Palm OS devices, and WAP-enabled mobile phones.

TimeControl Express for Palm handheld organizers will be shipped on July 31, 2000 while versions for Pocket PCs, other Palm OS devices, and other handhelds will be rolled out later this summer.
