NEC Computers Inc. recently launched the next generation of Versa notebooks: Versa SXi. Compared with the Versa SX, the Versa Sxi is designed to combine the portability of a thin/light system with the performance and usability features of a desktop PC.

The Versa SXi features the following:

• A choice of four Pentium® III processor

• 600MHz
• 650MHz
• 700MHz
• 750MHz

• 12GB hard drive
• 128MB memory
• NEC’s modular VersaBay™III technology, allowing for 6 different drives to be hot-swapped
• 14-inch XGA TFT display
• Integrated Mini PCI with a RJ-45 port for quick connection in networked environment or RJ-11 port for connection to a modem
• Two rechargeable lithium ion batteries
• Weighs 5.9lbs

The Versa SXi is designed to minimize the IT management burden, including easy deployment and maintenance in a networked environment. For example, the notebook is equipped with the Mimi PCI architecture, which allows users to choose a modem only or the combination of a modem/LAN built-to-order configuration. In addition, the communication equipment is integrated into the notebook reducing the potential of losing network components.

The Versa SXi will be available this summer.
