Symeo Launches Wireless Web Application Enabling Anywhere Access for Handheld Devices

Symeo™ Incorporated, a new player in the mobile Web market, launched its advanced wireless software product line, including its Direct-to-Net, client-side-only application, that enables corporate mobile users to interact with intranet, extranet, and Web applications via their handheld devices. The nucleus of Symeo’s mobile solution is its MobileBridge™ technology that addresses the problem of inherently unreliable connections when using a handheld device from a remote site. Instead of depending on a server, MobileBridge eliminates the need for and expense of server-side integration with corporate databases.

Corporate users can automatically pull down any standard web page format, save groups of pages on a PDA or handheld device, and interact with the pages whether or not a connection to the Internet, intranet or extranet is available. A wide variety of web page formats are supported including HTML, XHTML, XML, Coldfusion, ASP and SHTML, among others. For mobile users working in remote locations, the MobileBridge solution enables them to easily access Web-enabled applications, work offline, automatically save the results, and send data back once a connection becomes available. Mobile Bridge software provides a number of connectivity options including:

  • Phone line
  • Direct computer connection
  • Wireless modem
  • Ethernet
  • CDMA or GSM cellular phones via a partnership with Socket Communications.

MobileBridge technology has the capacity to integrate digital images from most digital cameras, digital sound clips, bar code readers, and digital video clips into the Web page upload to provide a complete business solution.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A good approach to a common problem but with a limited customer appeal. The devil is in determining which pages to pull - that depends on the user's vagaries of search.
