BT Cellnet’s corporate customers will be able to take advantage of the following:
The Motorola/Cisco GPRS architecture can be implemented over existing GSM infrastructure. Motorola’s GSM infrastructure systems are GPRS ready, requiring only a software load and PCU addition, with no modification to existing hardware. Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: GPRS is a welcome interim enhancement to GSM networks. It will provide much-needed speed enhancement. Motorola-Cisco initiative that started in early 1999 is bearing fruit. Good news is that it needs minimal disruption to existing infrastructure. Let pricing be such that it expands the market. However, please note that GPRS is interim step only because it uses existing radio band and bandwidth - there is limitation on how far you stretch the rubber. Would 3G be as smooth an upgrade? We do not think so. Note: This news release may contain forward-looking statements.
