Intermec to Offer Socket Communications’ Bluetooth Devices in Mobile Computing Products

Intermec Technologies, Corp. announced an agreement to provide the supply chain management (SCM) market with connectivity solutions that incorporate Bluetooth™ technology.

Terms of the agreement are as follows:

  • Intermec will acquire and license Socket’s Bluetooth products and technology for use in Intermec’s mobile computer products.
  • Intermec will sell Socket’s Battery Friendly® line of CompactFlash plug-in cards for enhancing connectivity between mobile computers.
  • Both companies will work to facilitate the interoperability of future Bluetooth-enabled devices used in Supply Chain Management applications.

Bluetooth enables users via their portable computing devices to easily exchange information via a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN). In addition, it eliminates the need for cables and wires that connect mobile computers to peripheral devices such as scanners and printers.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A good combination! Socket understands the hardware and Intermec understands the higher-level application integration in manufacturing/warehousing/retail environments.
