Nokia’s TETRA Networks and Handsets Awarded Latest Interoperability Certificate

Nokia announced that its TETRA infrastructure and handsets were awarded the latest TETRA Interoperability Profile (TIP) certificate, version 2, after meeting the latest TETRA MoU specifications.

TIP is an air interface specification that clarifies the TETRA standard, acts as a bridge between various vendors’ equipment, guides the implementation of TETRA services, and confirms functionality of the handsets and networks. The version 2 certificate covers advanced functionality such as Dual Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF), Extended group management and status messaging.

Nokia is continuing to develop TETRA infrastructure and terminals to meet the demands of its customers. Since Nokia’s TETRA Systems’ functions are implemented by software, future developments and enhancements to the system can be readily introduced without modifying the network, saving customers time and money.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A good capability for public safety agencies in Europe. Let Nokia do the same for APCO in North America.
