Following on the heels of the U.S. government’s passage of E-SIGN*, which now allows customers and businesses to authorize contracts with digital signatures, 724 Solutions Inc. announced that it will provide Certicom’s wireless PKI solution to the financial industry.

Certicom has developed an open and standards-based security solution that enables customers and businesses via their Internet-enabled mobile devices to digitally sign high value transactions such as mortgage agreements, buying insurance, or closing legally binding contracts. Now the digital signature verification is the Internet equivalent to a traditional hand-written signature. For financial institutions and retailers, it should assure them of the end-user’s identify thus reducing fraud.

In addition, 724 Solutions licensed Certicom’s WAP-enabled Trustpoint™ PKI Portal solution for incorporation into the Financial Services Platform. The new wireless PKI solution will support a range of encryption and asymmetric technologies, including Certicom’s Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), which enables digital signatures on many mobile devices. 724 Solutions will be able to interoperate the PKI Portal Service with existing PKI technologies including:
