Bell Mobility and Fourelle Systems Speed Up Wireless

Bell Mobility and Fourelle Systems, Inc. have announced their partnership to deploy Venturi™ Personal Client software, to enhance the performance of Bell Mobility’s Digital DATA to Go™ service.

Originally launched in May 1999, Bell Mobility’s Digital DATA to Go service transforms data-capable handsets into wireless modems that operate in conjunction with laptops and handheld and palm-sized computing devices to offer access to corporate resources such as email, calendar, files, corporate intranets, and the Internet. Bell Mobility customers can run the Venturi Personal Client software with their Digital DATA to Go service to accelerate the speed of their wireless Internet connections by as much as 300%.

Venturi improves performance of Web-browsing, email, and file transfers by compressing and decompressing data in real-time, which reduces the amount of actual data transmitted across the wireless network. In addition, Venturi also uses an image compression mechanism that significantly reduces the time it takes to download complex Web pages over wireless data networks.

By the end of July, registered Digital DATA to Go users will have access to Venturi Personal Client. Beginning in September, new Digital DATA to Go kits will come complete with the Venturi Personal Client software.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Using compression techniques to optimize wireless link traffic is a good design practice. However, it should be stressed that average improvement on most  transaction-based applications is much lower than 300% as claimed by the vendor. Notice it says - as much as 300%.
