France Telecom Global GSM Network to Offer Fleet Management

After months of testing its technology at France Telecom’s Research and Development Department, CellPoint, Inc. will supply its fleet management service Resource Management™ Service to the telecom company.

The Resource Management Service is based on the CellPoint System platform, which enables GSM-based positioning in standard handheld mobile devices. Since the service requires only a standard GSM phone with SIM Toolkit support and an Internet connection, which most companies already have, the two companies hope to attract mid-size transport, security, service and sales organizations, to enable them to route their vehicles and personnel with the least investment output.

The Resource Management Service

  • Positions one or numerous mobile phones
  • Receives an overview of the phones/resources on digitalized maps
  • Sends text messages to one or more phones
  • Chooses from predefined messages for sending replies
  • Receives automatic updates of one or all registered phone positions
  • All activity is logged and can be accessed via the Internet interface

How it Works

  • The end-user accesses the service via a Web site.
  • Each user has their own account protected by encryption, and a personal password.
  • The communication from the Internet site goes to the Cellpoint System, through the GSM network and appears as a SMS message on the mobile phone.
