Siemens Launches End-to-End Broadband Wireless Access Solution

Siemens Carrier Networks, LLC, a subsidiary of Siemens Information and Communications Networks, Inc., introduced Quickstream™, an end-to-end broadband access network solution for wireless carriers. Compared with other solutions, Siemens Quickstream enables wireless carriers to build the wireless infrastructure and seamlessly integrate the broadband access network not only to the customer’s building, but also to the end-user’s desktop.

By integrating network infrastructure equipment and broadband access equipment, Quickstream uses symmetrical digital subscriber line (SDSL) technology to overcome the mission critical in-house distribution and wiring challenge. According to the company, Quickstream brings wireless and wireline solutions together, integrating the infrastructure technology with content and applications. It is an ideal way for carriers to address business customers needing tailored solutions.

Significant elements of the Quickstream Solution are integrated access devices (IADs) for customer locations and multiservice access platforms (MSAP) for central offices from Siemens technology partner Accelerated Networks, Inc.

Siemens Quickstream Point-to-Multipoint System offers the following:

  • Highly efficient modulation schemes from QPSK to 64 QAM
  • Service interfaces like T1, 10 Base T, Frame Relay, POTS, and ATM at a capacity of up to 200 Mb/s per sector and 4,800 Mb/s per base station

Siemens Quickstream point-to-point solution (PMP) provides high-speed connections such as TDM, Ethernet, SONET, and ATM with bandwidths up to 155 Mb/s. The Quickstream solution operates from 10 to 40 GHz.

In addition, Siemens has introduced its new 28 GHz outdoor unit (ODU) that will enable 28 GHz license holders in the U.S. and Canada to build-out their networks with a proven local multipoint distribution system (LMDS). The 28 GHz ODU is from Siemens' technology partner P-Com, Inc. and is FCC certified and approved.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A very effective fixed wireless broadband LMDS offering from a European telecommunications leader that takes access to the desktop - this will not burden in-house wireline infrastructure, if the customer so chooses.155 Mbps point-to-point speed is higher than several competitors and offers choices - Ethernet, SONET, etc.
