Motorola and SAP Team to Extend the Reach of M-Commerce

Motorola, Inc. and SAP have announced their intent to enter into a global technology agreement to deliver intelligent notification and enterprise applications to the mobile marketplace via mySAP.com ™ Mobile Workplace and mySAP.com™ Marketplace.

The combination of Motorola’s wireless solutions, including Messaging Server and Mobile Internet Exchange™ communications platform (MIX platform), and SAP’s enterprise software is expected to further enhance real-time m-commerce by providing businesses worldwide access to vital data. The two companies will work together to streamline and personalize voice and mobile messaging by providing a single, configurable interface into a variety of information sources, including:

  • Messaging services
  • The Internet
  • Corporate intranets
  • Legacy systems

For end-users these applications will enhance the management and processing of information and provide a notification solution that can work with mySAP.com inter-enterprise applications on a variety of messaging formats, including paging, SMS, email, WAP, voice mail, and fax.

For the real estate industry, for instance, Motorola Messaging Server and mySAP.com Marketplace can provide up-to-date notification of market offerings to subscribers. Through previously defined personal profiles, the mySAP.com Marketplace matches the necessary information such price range, size, location or amenities, then sends this information through the Motorola Messaging Server to subscribers via a personal email or a SMS account. Other applications can include the ability to provide real-time business information to management teams to improve decisions or field service notification.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This is a mighty difficult endeavor. while both Motorola and SAP are big players, there is something missing in this equation - a capable end-to-end systems integrator in the mobile computing space - neither of the two vendors have this as its core strength.
