SUMmedia.com Announces Successful Trial of Push Technology

With the worldwide popularity of its savingumoney.com portal, which offers users eCoupons on products and services in their local area, SUMmedia.com, Inc. is now beta testing its push technology to a WAP-enabled device. According to the company, it has demonstrated the first successful push of an eCoupon to a Web-enabled device, anywhere.

At present, trials are taking place in Vancouver, Canada. In its latest trial, a company representative was delivered an eCoupon to a Web-enabled cellular phone, via a local WAP service provider. A local bistro, a savingumoney.com customer, was then able to electronically verify and redeem the coupon and thus honor the patron’s discount.

Based on data from wireless networks, SUMmedia.com’s push technology (patent pending) will deliver eCoupons to registered users based on purchasing preferences and their real-time location. For example, users can be notified of a meal special in their area just prior to leaving their office for lunch.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: An interesting twist to location-specific wireless application that will succeed in our opinion, so long as service providers send out eCoupons selectively. We hope that the content delivery will be based on a pull mechanism. Push will create too much eCoupon clutter.
