Artaban Enables Browser-Based Automated Data Collection on Intermec Terminals

Intermec Technologies Corp. has named Artaban Solutions Inc. as a Premier Solutions business partner. Artaban provides professional software consulting, contract programming, financial services, and automated data collection solutions throughout the U.S.

As a Premier Solutions Partner, Artaban will provide Web-enabled, browser-based solutions for DOS, Windows, and Windows CE data collection terminals by using Intermec’s dcBrowser™ and DCS301 Controller.

Browser-Based Automation Data Collection Solution:

  • The key component is the interaction between the DCS301Controller and the dcBrowser software.
  • The DCS301 Controller communicates with the Web server, interpreting the HTML code and stripping out any graphics or non-standard HTML code.
  • The Controller then interacts with dcBrowser, running on the data collection device.
  • The dcBrowser client processes all the I/O activities and interactions with the user.
  • The DCS301 delivers the document to the remote data terminal (RDT) and manages the RDT response.

"This collaboration promises to further benefit our customers’ manufacturing and distribution supply operations," said John Pierson, Intermec Vice-President, Indirect Sales.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Web browser-based data collection is the right application architecture as compared to a conventional online application architecture that ties to a specific backend database and applications directly. DCS301 appears as a web application server that acts as a go-between backend and frontend. The application appears optimized by stripping out graphics - a requirement for wireless networks. Intermec understands field data collection market well.
