F-Secure Anti-Virus for EPOC Platform

Following the launch of its Anti-Virus for WAP Gateways, F-Secure Corporation has announced its F-Secure Anti-Virus for the Symbian EPOC platform. The product incorporates F-Secure’s Mobile Scanner Technology and advanced wireless features.

With F-Secure’s anti-virus solutions, wireless application service providers are able to offer remotely managed security services to their corporate and consumer customers. The company foresees security becoming one of the fundamental added value services that service providers offer their customers in the future.

F-Secure Anti-Virus for EPOC offers on-the-fly real-time protection against the following:

  • Binary viruses
  • Script languages viruses
  • Trojan horses
  • Email bombs

The product uses the Mobile Scanner Technology to enable F-Secure researchers to analyze and disinfect future viruses as they surface. The Mobile Scanner is optimized for the small memory and storage requirements of wireless information devices. In addition, the anti-virus product features centralized policy-based management via F-Secure Policy Manager. Users will be able to have anti-virus updates pushed to their wireless devices the instant they become available.

The product is immediately available to qualified hardware vendors and operators.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A useful product for securing your mobile systems. While this will help for the most vulnerable link, we still recommend end-to-end security solutions for mission-critical and financial transactions i.e. from the device to the server where data resides, not just at the WAP gateway. What if there is not enough security between ISP's or NSP's WAP gateway and the corporate server?
