2000 - 28 (August 2000) PRODUCTS, SERVICES & APPLICATIONS MapInfo Introduces New Location-based Products to Help Field Staff MapInfo Corporation recently unveiled a series of products, at the Telecom Business East, including MapinHand and MapXtend Java Edition. MapinHand MapinHand is a business-to-business solution built on Orale8i that enables companies to supply field staff real-time access to critical, location-based data using handheld devices. MapinHand allows companies to tap into the power of Oracle8i with the Oracle® Spatial option and use MapInfo’s MapXtreme® Web software to give field workers real-time access to customer and asset data via PDAs. In addition, field staff can send updated information on equipment and customer status to corporate databases from wireless devices. MapinHand is a packaged solution that includes installation and configuration of the solution on the customer site without requiring additional programming. MapInfo MapinHand will be available in September and will be priced based on the number of handheld client devices. MapXtend Java Edition MapXtend™ Java™ Edition is a developer’s tool for the Java 2 platform, Micro Edition (J2ME™), that enables enterprises to create spatially-enabled applications for accessing location-based data on PDAs.
