2000 - 28 (August 2000) TECHNOLOGY Nortel Networks, TELUS Mobility, Redknee.com Demo In-Vehicle 3G Wireless Internet As part of a live, over-the-air cdma2000 trial that Nortel Networks and TELUS are conducting in Calgary, Canada, the two companies along with Redknee.com recently demonstrated a fully operational, in-vehicle mobile solution called AIME (Advanced Intelligent Mobile Entertainment). AIME is a prototype in-vehicle multimedia solution that delivers the following:
This advanced technology operates on the TELUS Mobility network using Nortel Networks’ 3G cdma2000 1XRTT Wireless Internet technology, which is designed to provide packet data transmission at speeds up to 144 kbps for ‘always’ on Internet access from mobile devices. It also uses Redknee.com’s technology that allows users to receive messages in their cars. To ensure safety, the AIME solution limits visual information, via a computer screen, to the back seat passengers, while audio information is only available to those traveling in the front seats. The technology should be available within two years. For more information: Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: A good way of testing m-commerce and location-specific advertising solutions.
