Centerpost Gives Corporate Customers Control of Smart Messages

Based on the need for corporations to deliver relevant information to their customers when and where they want it, Centerpost Corporation has unveiled its new messaging service, SmartDelivery. In addition, the company announced that it has agreements not only with United Airlines and Micromuse, Inc. to conduct pilots of its new service but also with Metavante to commerce a commercial launch.

Centerpost’s messaging service enables a corporation to reach its customers giving each one of them greater control of their messages by allowing them to specify what information they want, where, and how they want it. For example, an individual may wish to have urgent messages (e.g. flights delays, credit card fraud alerts) sent to their cellular phone, while other messages (e.g. order confirmations) can be delivered to a fax machine or home email account.

Centerpost’s patent-pending SmartDelivery service is a messaging platform that enables a corporation’s customers to receive XML-based electronic messages or, in other words, smart messages.

How SmartDelivery Messaging Service Works:

  • An individual creates a personal profile via the Internet to identity their preferred message–receiving device, from pager to spouse’s cell phone, and establish how and when each device should be used.
  • Corporations, in turn, send messages to Centerpost with XML tags that define particular attributes of each message, such as urgent and privacy.
  • Centerpost automatically matches those attributes with the individual’s personal profile, and them formats, organizes, stores, and delivers each message to the appropriate devices.

Initial Applications:

  • United Airlines will be using the service to send its customers time-critical information, including flight delays, upgrade notifications, and gate information, on their preferred devices.
  • Micromuse will integrate the Centerpost platform with its network fault management software to deliver mission-critical information to its customers.
  • Metavante will use the service to implement a high-end messaging system to ensure orderly receipt of consolidated balance statements from numerous banks as part of its business e-banking solution.

Recently Motorola has backed Centerpost as a minority investor and expects to work with Centerpost on future solutions for its online customer store.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We believe that Centrepost fills an important void in previous generation of messaging platforms where you could not define your preferences in detail, which did not support wireless devices and did not allow you to indicate how to receive messages. We would like to see all major messaging platforms like MS Exchange and Lotus Notes to have similar level of functionality. Sending messages to a pager is not a big deal but definition of preferences and personalization is - that's what we applaud Centrepost for.
