2000 - 29 (August 2000) PRODUCTS, SERVICES & APPLICATIONS California Highway Patrol Calls Plant Equipment for 911 System A growing problem for emergency call centers is that wireless calls to 9-1-1 do not automatically present the location and call-back number of the caller to the 911 centers. To address this problem, the California Highway Patrol’s Los Angeles Communications Center (LACC) had Plant Equipment, Inc. (PEI) install intelligent workstations to be used for wireless 9-1-1 calls. LACC is utilizing PEI’s VESTA intelligent workstation system to process calls. VESTA is a computer telephony integration solution that allows the call-taker to process calls with simple keystrokes and mouse. It automatically displays critical information about a call including the location and telephone number of wireline 911 calls. With VESTA, the LACC system will enhance the highway patrol’s ability to locate and call-back wireless 9-1-1 callers in the State of California. According to PEI, VESTA is the first step towards making LACC the nation’s most advanced wireless location center.
