2000 - 29 (August 2000) PRODUCTS, SERVICES & APPLICATIONS Glenayre’s @ctiveLink Two-Way Messaging Module Receives FCC Approval Glenayre Technologies announced that it has received FCC approval for its @ctiveLink™ two-way wireless messaging module, which is used in conjunction with the Handspring Visor™. Glenayre will now move from trial to commercial shipment of the module to carriers and other distributors. The company also received Industry Canada RSS134 certification, which is required for the module to be sold in Canada, and Intrinsic Safety, UL913 certification from the Environmental Test Laboratories. Glenayre’s @ctiveLink module wirelessly enables the personal information management utilities of the Visor, snapping seamlessly into the Springboard™ slot on the back of the Visor. The module provides Visor users with Always @ctive™ connectivity to a ReFLEX™ network, allowing them to constantly receive messages. ReFLEX networks are wireless data networks that allow two-way interactive messaging between wireless devices. Unlike other wireless data networks, ReFLEX networks have enhanced in-building penetration. @ctiveLink enables end-users to receive messages from and make queries to the Internet as well as receive and send email messages. Recently, Glenayre also released its online @ctiveLink Developers Zone, located at (www.glenayre.com/developers). It provides developers with the information and tools needed to build applications for the module and enable connectivity to ReFLEX networks using various interfaces including Glenayre’s Wireless Messaging Applications Programming Interface, WMapi™.
