Parthus’s NavStream Platform to Enable GPS Integration into Next Generation Mobile Phones and Automotive

With the FCC recently mandating that by October 2001 all cellular carriers in the U.S. must be able to instantly locate cellular callers to emergency 9-1-1 services, wireless vendors are teaming their resources and expertise to meet the guidelines. To meet this end, Parthus Technologies plc, a developer of semiconductor IP, recently announced its alliance with ARM, a provider of embedded RISC microprocessor solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, ARM will license Parthus’s NavStream™ Platform, which is capable of locating users within the five-meter and the five-second E911 guideline, to incorporate into its core technology. For instance, the ARM7TDMI® core-based NavStream technology is a complete <GPS> Platform incorporating radio, baseband, and software stacks for both mobile phones and automotive markets.

Features of NavStream

  • Delivers a high-level of location accuracy to any device, such as mobile phones, PDAs or GPS enabled vehicles, from anywhere in the world
  • Designed to be air interference independent
  • Functions to any wireless standard
  • Operates inside houses and moving vehicles, under heavy foliage, and in dense urban environments
  • Deigned for low cost, GPS implementation in handsets and automotive
  • Operates on both GSM and CDMA networks

In addition, ARM will sub-license the NavStream Platform to its global network of customers and partners, including mobile phones and semiconductor manufacturers.
