XcelleNet Enhances Afaria to Manage Mobile Resources

With enterprises implementing multiple mobile Internet applications for an array of wireless devices, they are now realizing the importance of mobile resource management solutions. To meet the demand XcelleNet, Inc. has announced additional enhancements to its line of Afaria mobile management solutions. Afaria now features Web Administrator and Alert Console tools allowing for the remote management of network mobile resources via a browser and Internet connection.

Web Administrator allows administrators to remotely manage an Afaria transmitter from a Web interface. From anywhere, they can perform the following functions:

  • Modify settings
  • Publish or unpublish channels
  • View session or file transfer logs
  • Monitor client’s inventory logs
  • React to alerts console alarms

In addition, Web Administrator allows help desk and IS personnel to access session and file and inventory log information to use while troubleshooting problems from mobile users.

Afaria Alerts Console provides administrators with the ability to monitor and respond to changes in their mobile environment. Via both Afaria Web Administrator and Windows interfaces, the Afaria Alerts Console graphically displays the following:

  • System health status
  • Alert notifications via email and pagers
  • Network-related alerts are sent to consoles in an SNMP framework (such as HP OpenView Suite™, Computer Associate Unicenter™, and Tivoli Enterprise™)
  • Automatic remedial actions to be executed when pre-defined thresholds are reached

In addition, Alerts Console can be used in conjunction with Afaria’s Inventory Manager to email or page a system administrator when a monitored inventory item changes on a mobile device. For instance, an alert would be generated if a device lost memory capacity, after being serviced by a third-party.

The additional management functionality provided by the two new Afaria features allows organizations to determine and to react quickly to the needs of their mobile users.
