Compaq Launches End-to-End Business Solutions

Productivity and wireless access have become inseparable - at least, that’s what Compaq would have us believe.

Compaq Computer Corporation claims it is taking a "quantum leap" in keeping the mobile workforce productive with its recent launch of a host of products and services called "iPAQnet™. iPAQnet solutions will provide employees with wireless access to e-mail, corporate information and the Internet from anywhere, at anytime.

IPAQnet Mobility Solutions
The first of the iPAQnet solutions to be introduced is "iPAQnet Mobility Solutions" for the iPAQ PocketPCs and iPAQ Blackberry devices. iPAQnet Mobility Solutions will be available to U.S. customers in December of this year.

For the IPAQ PocketPC

  • iPAQnet Mobile Internet offers unlimited wireless access to the Internet and Internet e-mail at a flat monthly rate and features products from GoAmerica and Sierra Wireless, and content from Infospace.
  • iPAQnet Mobile Email delivers secure wireless access to Microsoft Exchange e-mail. The service is built on the Infowave Wireless Business Engine.
  • iPAQnet Mobile Intranet offers access to corporate intranets and Web-based applications.

The IPAQ Blackberry

  • The iPAQnet Blackberry Wireless E-mail Solution will enable the user equipped with either the pager-sized Compaq iPAQ Blackberry W1000 or handheld iPAQ Blackberry H1100 to surf the Web and access Internet e-mail anywhere in the U.S.

Bluetooth Evaluation Program
In the first quarter of 2001, the company will launch a pilot program to test Bluetooth wireless connectivity between its recently launched Armada M300 notebook PC with the following:

  • An integrated Bluetooth solution or a PC Card
  • An iPAQ PocketPC with a Bluetooth CompactFlash card
  • Bluetooth-enabled cellular phones
  • An iPAQ Deskpro PCs with Bluetooth adapters

Based on the outcomes, the company will begin rolling out Bluetooth solutions compliant with the new Bluetooth 1.1 specification in the second quarter of 2001.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: We like Compaq's adoption of Bluetooth technology into their notebooks. We saw prototypes in Las Vegas last week. Besides that, there is nothing significant in Compaq's joining the band wagon of wireless messaging.
