Palm Mobile Internet Kit To Connect to Web

Palm Corp. has begun shipping the Palm Mobile Internet Kit. The product will enable most Palm handheld computer users to connect to the Internet via a wireless phone.

Along with the Mobile Internet Kit, users will need the following:

  • Either a Palm m100, Palm III, Palm IIIc, Palm IIIx, Palm IIIxe, or Palm Vx handhelds running on Palm OS 3.5, for which an upgrade is available
  • An infrared-enabled mobile phone
  • A cable or a palm-compatible modem

The Mobile Internet Kit will enable users to access the Internet through Web clipping technology. First introduced with the Palm VII wireless handheld, web clipping extracts only the relevant information from a given website, eliminating graphics and extraneous information.

The Kit provides the user access to the following:

  • More than 450 web clipping applications from Palm.Net website, including news, reference, shopping, travel, and entertainment.
  • E-mail via the Multimail solution (v. 2.26), providing access to any POP or IMAP 4 mail account.
  • Short Messaging Services via HandPHONE SMS (v. 1.3)

The kit is priced at $39.95 and available at www.palm.com
