2000 - 45 (Dec. 2000) PRODUCTS, SERVICES & APPLICATIONS Compaq Announces MultiPort Technology For Integrated Wireless Connectivity Compaq Computers unveiled its first modules for adding wireless connectivity to its up-coming commercial notebooks. Located at the back of the notebook display, the MulitPort interface is an embedded, fully compliant Plug-and-Play module UPS port. Compaq collaborated with Intel and Ericsson in the development of the first two modules: 802.11b wireless LAN and Bluetooth modules, which are currently available. Intel PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN Module

Commenting on the flexibility of the MultiPort, Ken Willett, vice president, product management, commercial personal computing group, Compaq, said, the MultiPort interface will allow users to connect to various wireless standards by simply changing the wireless module based on their needs. He added, "This flexibility will allow customers to easily migrate to other wireless standards as they evolve and come to market."
