Aether Systems Acquires RTS Wireless to Broaden Products and Services to Carriers and ISPs

Aether Systems Inc. hopes that its recent acquisition of RTS Wireless, a developer of software connecting the Internet to wireless devices, will round out its product and service offerings to carriers and ISPs.

Signing a definitive agreement to purchase the New York-based company, for $111-million in stock and cash, Aether Systems will be able to leverage a host of new products and resources.

  • RTS’s carrier-class wireless Internet infrastructure products and services.
  • Technologies for messaging services including two way short messaging services, instant messaging, and unified messaging.
  • RTS’ Advantage® System that provides Web content transformation and delivery services to virtually any wireless device.
  • A customer based that includes AOL, Alltel Communications, Ameritech, Ericsson, EirCell, Motorola, Verizon, and Voicestream.
  • A team of 120 wireless engineers among RTS’ 200 employees, all with expertise in wireless application development.
  • RTS’ presence in Europe and Asia Pacific, with engineering and sales resources.
