WRQ Breaks Down Barriers to Wireless Networks with NetMotion 2.0

Widespread adoption of wireless networks has been deterred by the inability to duplicate the wireless experience for the user as well as the IT manager. In an effort to reverse the trend, WRQ has released NetMotion 2.0, a wireless infrastructure software with enhanced security, end-user performance, device support, and system administration.

NetMotion allows IT staff to extend existing applications to wireless networks without customization, middleware, or stack replacement. The product is now available in two editions: the Wireless LAN Edition and the Wireless WAN/LAN Edition. Users can move between wireless networks and be assured that their device will recover automatically when discounted, and that they can resume working on applications, such as e-mail Web, file transfer, from where they left off.

New Features of NetMotion 2.0

  • Security: NetMotion Wireless WAN/LAN Edition offers added encryption and compression technology required in highly secure wireless WAN environments. The strong encryption that secures network communication over public and wireless networks. Administrators can choose from 56-, 128, or 168-bit encryption.
  • Enhanced performance on end-user devices: Optimizes the performance of Pocket PCs such as the Compaq iPAQ, HP Jornada 540 series, and Casio Cassiopeia E-125.
  • Improved state handling and automatic recovery: Wireless devices will automatically connect to the wireless network once in range.
  • Centralized management tools: IT managers can track wireless devices and connections, including the removal of connections to lost devices from the network.
  • Roaming Features: Users can roam seamlessly across subnets and IP networks and benefit from advanced interface-assisted roaming detection algorithms.
  • Application persistence: Users can be assured that application connection will be maintained through out-of range conditions.

NetMotion Architecture

  • The NetMotion Mobility Server running on Microsoft Windows NT Server.
  • A NetMotion Mobility Client that runs on devices using Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows CE, or Pocket PC.
  • Built to run with standard protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP/IP, DHCP and SNMP, thus extending performance, usability, and affordability of wireless environments.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We fundamentally disagree with just extending web applications to wireless and mobile environment without change and adaptation - mobile worker's work processes are different from desktop environment and wireline. There are only a few applications that are suitable for simple web-enablement for the wireless
