Alcatel and Zucotto Wireless To Develop Java-Based Bluetooth Solutions for 3G Wireless Devices

Alcatel and Zucotto Wireless Inc. have entered into a partnership to combine their expertise, Bluetooth and Java semiconductor technologies, respectively, to accelerate the development of Java technology-enabled Bluetooth devices.

The alliance will develop an integrated solution that will allow Alcatel’s single-chip Bluetooth solution to take advantage of Zucotto’s Xpresso™ processor’s ability to execute Java bytecode natively, delivering an efficient, optimized balance between high-speed and low-power consumption.

Commenting on the alliance, the president and CEO of Zucotto Mark Wells said, "This relationship combines one of the fastest growing consumer standards with an optimal computing environment for enabling interactive content and services on wireless platforms."

The two companies plan to widen their alliance by encouraging value chain participants in the Bluetooth and Java markets to join with application providers in such areas as multimedia, location-based services, security, and financial services.
