2000 - 45 (Dec. 2000) PRODUCTS, SERVICES & APPLICATIONS Korean-based Firm Introduces Smartphone with Embedded Linux OS According to industry forecasts, the embedded Linux operating system earlier released by the Korean-based company, Palm Palm Technology Inc., and now loaded into a smartphone may prove to be "the most adequate operating system for wireless Internet appliances." Palm Palm along with its partners SK Telecom and Seoul National University have introduced SK Telecom’s IMT-2000 smartphone loaded with Tynux®, an embedded Linux OS reengineered by Palm Palm. Palm Palm claims that Tynux provides a wireless Internet environment equal to that of a PC, and its enhanced power and memory performance is ideal for multimedia data applications.
