NEWS TECHNOLOGY Nokia and 2Scoot to Test New Wireless E-payment Technology What will attract consumers and businesses, alike, to m-commerce services is proof that they offer convenience and high-level security. Knowing this, Nokia and 2Scoot have joined forces to transform Nokia’s 5100 Series Smartphones into trusted payment devices.By integrating a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip into the changeable Nokia Xpress-on™ phone cover, appropriately named Smartcover, which snaps on to Nokia Smartphones, and using 2Scoot’s network, customers can make secure cashless payments quickly and conveniently. RFID is a short-range bi-directional RF transmission system that operates at 134.2 KHz or 13.56 MHz. RFID applications include transportation, asset management, and user validation. In conjunction with two national chains of fast-food restaurants, Nokia and 2Scoot will conduct a series of trials to prove the reliability and functionality of the technology. How it Works
