NTE Introduces Wireless B2B Trading for Transportation Industry

Building on the success of its current Internet B2B marketplace, NTE, an e-commerce company, partnered with Novarra, a wireless solutions provider, to launch a wireless B2B marketplace for the transportation industry.

The wireless B2B marketplace solution is ideal for shippers and carriers who buy and sell transportation services over the Internet can now do so using a variety of mobile devices such as WAP-enabled phones, laptops, and palmtop computers.

Drivers equipped with a mobile device can take advantage of the following applications:

  • Search for and book shipments tendered to NTE
  • Identify available loads in any given region across the U.S.
  • Retrieve pricing, attributes, and delivery requirements
  • Receive status updates as to the whereabouts of their trucks and cargo
  • Obtain accessorial change information

By mapping its existing browser-based applications, NTE, with the technical assistance from Novarra, has made its B2B marketplace accessible via wireless devices. The mapping process establishes new filters so key information can be presented on small screens without re-authoring existing Web content or altering current applications, the company said.

"Our goal is to provide meaningful data to our member companies so they can make intelligent transportation logistics decisions as efficiently as possible," said Stephen Baggett, director of strategic solutions development at NTE. "We are also investigating ways to use integrated voice response (IVR) technology, which should eliminate any equipment barriers."

NTE expects to launch its wireless trading access in the spring.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We are confused - either it is a fleet management application or they are trying to do more than they should on handheld devices while on the road.  We do not support the premise that users should or would use small low-function handheld devices for B2B procurement while away from the office. B2B is serious stuff and should be done when you are calm, collected (means stationary) and armed with all the information you need. The desktop can alert the professional with excerpted messages when they are away on the road. Then it is ancilliary to the base functionality of the desktop. Those who are proposing business in perpetual motion without a fixed home base are climbing the wrong tree.
