Lucent Technologies Launches Mobile Internet Services

Lucent Technologies is stepping up to the plate to offer mobile operators a comprehensive portfolio of services and products to help them jump-start their way into the mobile Internet market.

The portfolio branded as The Lucent Mobile Experience™ incorporates software, products, and services with the promise of offering subscribers personalized services while the operator can reap the benefits from new revenue-generating channels. The company said that it can service operators seeking to deliver any level of service to their customers from an introductory mobile Internet experience to sophisticated media applications.

The Lucent Mobile Experience draws on the R&D from Bell Labs and its own expertise in wireless networks to provide operators with all the tools needed to rapidly introduce the next generation of services. The portfolio is comprised of the following:

  • Wireless network equipment
  • Middleware
  • Open APS
  • Internet content
  • Mobile Internet developer’s kit
  • Software applications
  • Specialized transaction-based micro-billing solutions
  • Business consulting and professional services
  • Mobile devices

Key to the portfolio is Lucent’s MiLife™ Media Platform, which the company claims is the first software-based, plug-and-play platform to integrate voice browsing, audio content aggregation, alerting, and streaming capabilities. The MiLife Media platform takes advantage of the customization capabilities of the MiLife Mobile Internet Gateway. The company said that the Lucent MiLife Mobile Internet Gateway was developed by Bell Labs to help mobile operators deliver personalized, location and presence-based applications to their customers, while helping to ensure both network security and individual privacy.

Depending on the needs of the operator, they may choose an introductory mobile Internet experience such as the Lucent’s MiLife WAP Gateway solution for SMS, e-mail, and PIM services or the more advanced MiLife Mobile Internet Gateway for delivering personalized, location and presence-based applications.

The MiLife Media Platform will be generally available in June.
