NEWS ACQUISITIONS, MERGERS & AGREEMENTS Start-Up Commtag Secures $5-Million In its first round of funding, Cambridge, U.K.-based Commtag has secured $5-million from European venture capital firm Amadeus Capital Partners. The funds will be directed toward the continued development of its recently announced unplug+play™ platform and other wireless peer-to-peer networking products.The U.K. start-up envisions that wireless data will be driven by social interaction thus the need for P2P network technology, said Ran Mokady, the company’s CEO. Commtag’s unplug+play technology enables the rapid development and deployment of ad hoc P2P wireless applications from sharing photos and video clips to transferring secure files. For 2G and 3G cellular network operators, this could prove to be a lucrative revenue stream. At present the company is developing a collaboration application that enables mobile data to be linked to mobile telephone numbers, as demonstrated at the recent 3GSM World Congress.
