The new software, branded the Mobile Commerce Platform, enables operators to offer their customers with mobile phones the ability to securely pay for goods and service bought over the Internet.

• Runs on existing 2G networks and will be ready for GPRS and 3G mobile networks
• Incorporates security functions that range from password identification to advanced wireless PKI protection
• Supports Jalda™, the payment technology that enables charging for both site content as well as goods and services purchased over the mobile Internet
• Incorporates the Mcare application, which acts as a helpdesk for the end user

According to the Swedish company, the platform also makes it easy for content providers and applications developers to create value-added services such as banking, trading, ticketing and shopping to satisfy and retain loyal customers.

Part of Ericsson’s Internet Service Platform, the software is expected to be commercially available n the second quarter of 2001.
