Office Depot Rolls Out Wireless Mobile Logistics System
Office Depot, Inc. of Delray
Beach, Florida, has announced the roll out of a wireless mobile computing
transportation and logistics system to more than 2,000 delivery trucks
across the U.S. To develop and implement its wireless solution, the office
supplier turned to Aether Systems, Inc.’s Transportation and Logistics
division as well as Symbol Technologies, Inc.
Components of Office Depot Signature Tracking and Reporting System
- Symbol’s SPT 1700 Palm OS handheld computing devices
- Symbol’s Mobile Gateway on-broad data transaction systems
- Aethers’ wireless software and applications
Drivers in selected U.S. cities will be able to verify what items are on
each truck, capture the customer’s signature to complete the transaction,
and reconcile inventory, the company said.
"The implementation of this real-time delivery and tracking system
allows us to provide and ensure that our customers get the products they
want, when they want them, and our drivers can resolve any customer issue
more efficiently and accurately," remarked Dennis Andruskiewicz, senior
vice president of distribution at Office Depot.
The retailer expects to roll out the system nationwide by the end of the
year.
Mobileinfo Comments and
Advisory: A good vertical
application. Well-done Office depot and Symbol. This is the way to
exploit mobile computing.
