n-scribe For Digital Writing

Digital Ink of Wellesley, Mass. has combined the power and the immediacy of handwriting with computer technology into its wireless, electronic pen, n-scribe™.

With the n-scribe pen, a user can scrawl out messages on paper and send them off as e-mail, fax, or store them for future use. The company said that the message will appear exactly as the original, regardless of its destination.

The n-scribe tracks the pen’s movements and using infrared relays the digital record of the movements to its storage device, the carrying case. Sending a message via e-mail will require the n-scribe’s case to be connected to a cell phone, PDA, or a PC.

In addition, the wireless pen simplifies the inputting of text into portable electronic devices such as cell phones or PDAs. The technology complements existing voice, data, image, and video communication, the company says.

According to The New York Times, the device will be available by the end of the year.
