NetZero Uses Qualcomm Platform BREW in Wireless Ad Initiative

Marking its entrance into the wireless field, free Internet service provider NetZero, Inc. is developing a wireless advertising solution to target advertisements to wireless devices.

The California based company has begun development of HardCell, a wireless advertising initiative using Qualcomm’s Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform.

HardCell advertising solution will be available to all types of mobile application providers, enabling them to generate additional revenue. Customers will also benefit from the technology as it will allow them to receive relevant information and act upon it instantly in such ways as visiting the advertiser’s Web site to calling the company directly. For the advertiser, it means being able to create a richer ad experience by including text, color images, and animation formats.

"The development of HardCell marks the first time the company will have the opportunity to extend its targeting technology to mobile devices, which we believe is a key growth market," remarked Mark Glodston, chairman and CEO of NetZero.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Brew is an important development platform for cDMa applications. Application development platform is moving forward.  We only hope that network infrastructure and consumers are also ready for Hardcell messages. We are less hopeful of that. We suggest pulled SoftCell instead of HardCell.
