Nokia To Boost Wireless Banking
Nokia Networks, a division of Nokia, has joined forces with 724
Solutions Inc. to offer the banking establishment a new software to
enable its customers to conduct wireless banking transactions.
The two companies will market and deploy the Nokia Activ Signet
Solution with the 724 Solutions Financial Services Platform. The
Nokia Activ Signet Solution offers further digital-signing
capabilities via mobile devices on banking and B2B transactions that
require a high level of security. This is in keeping with the recent
legislation passed in various markets recognizing contracts signed
by digital signatures as legally binding.
The Nokia Activ Signet Solution
- Enables certificate and digital signature validation and
on-line certificate enrollment
- Based on open standards, such as PKI , on which the security
aspects of the WAP 1.2 specification is built
- Supports WAP 1.2 compatible phones which will include Wireless
Identity Module, the tamper-resistant module for private key
storage and crypto operations
Commenting on Nokia’s relationship with 724 Solutions, Jukka
Riivari, Nokia’s director of sales and marketing, said, "With
724 Solutions, we will be able to give customers quick access to
turnkey solutions when they want to undertake a new range of
wireless transactions, such as large-value funds transfer, loan and
mortgage agreements, and credit card applications."

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: 724
Solutions is covering its basis with Nokia devices. It is a validation
both for Nokia's Active Signet solution as much as it for 724 Solution's
lead in financial applications. PKI digital certificates are not easy to
implement for enterprises (according to Gartner, 90% installations
abandoned PKI in their first attempt) - 724 Solution's experience should
make it easier.
