ArrayComm Joins Coalition to Call for U.S. Spectrum Supporting
Broadband Wireless Data
The manufacturer of smart
antenna systems ArrayComm, Inc. has joined the newly formed TDD
Coalition to advocate for specific U.S. spectrum allocations for
wireless broadband data systems. This is an effort to put U.S. on
par with Europe and Japan where TDD spectrum has already been
allocated.
Using the acronym of this specific technology, Time Division
Duplex, the TDD Coalition is building a case for a radio access
format that is optimized for 3G data services and makes extremely
efficient use of scare radio spectrum.
Bradley Holmes, senior vice president of ArrayComm, said, U.S.
entrepreneurs and consumers should expect the same opportunities for
technical innovation as their European and Asian counterparts in
their own market. He added that TDD-based systems providing wireless
broadband data services are expected to complement 3G voice systems,
which utilize older Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) technology.
Commenting on the benefits of technology, Remi Chayer of Harris
Corporation and newly elected chairman of the Coalition, said,
"TDD makes efficient use of spectrum, increases throughput in
many applications, enables low-cost equipment and provides
flexibility in system design and band planning. [The goal of the
Coalition] is to ensure that TDD systems and technologies are given
equal consideration as an important alternative to legacy
technologies, and to ensure the harmonious coexistence of TDD
systems with non-TDD systems."
Role of the TDD Coalition
- Active role in regulatory discussions involving spectrum
allocation and management
- Serve as a platform for all member vendors of TDD-based
products and services to deliver a common voice to the adoption
of TDD
- Publish presentation and white papers and press releases
Founding members are Aperto Networks; BeamReach Networks; CALY
Networks; Clearwire; Harris Corporation; IPWireless; LinkAir; Malibu
Networks; Radiant Networks; Raze Technologies, and Wavion.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Arraycomm
has promising broadband wireless technology that is more efficient
than 3G network technology. The big problem is availability of
spectrum. Need for greater bandwidth is now. While the coalition is a
good effort and we support their endeavor, we are not very
hopeful of early resolution.
