Kada Systems Introduces a Complete Mobile Platform

Kada Systems™ has introduced the Kada Mobile Platform™ (Kada Mobile™) for the Palm OS. Described as the industry’s smallest, fastest, most complete and easily ported Java application platform for mobile devices.

The Kada platform, powered by a Java Virtual Machine, promises developers the ability to test, optimize, and deploy applications to existing mobile environments. Mobile workers will also benefit from the platform, as it will allow them to download complete Java applications, access information off-line, and then synchronize the data updates to their on-line databases, said Sumit Sinha, software consultant, Baton Rouge International, Inc.

According to the company, the Kada Mobile addresses the problem of a lack of deployable full-featured e-business applications to mobile devices by leveraging the operating system independent of the Java application environment to create a foundation for an always-available application environment.

The company characterizes the Kada Mobile as being

  • Small—Kada VM™ is half the size of most full-function Java Virtual Machines
  • Fast—Applications compiled with Kada’s bytecode compiler run 3-14 times faster relative to straight interpretation of bytecode
  • Complete—Unlike other ‘microJavas,’ Kada Mobile includes a full implementation of the Java APIs, including support for java.awt, java.sql, and java.net
  • Compatible—Kada Mobile is a clean room implementation of a JVM and supports standard development tools such as Visual Cafe, Forte, PowerJ, and Code Warrior
  • Portable—Available for Palm OS 3.5 but is easily ported to other wireless platforms

The Andover, Mass.-based company said the Kada Mobile is currently available for Palm OS, with plans for versions supporting EPOC, RIM, and Windows CE.
