Voice-Based Access to Wireless Content
Offering an alternative to
the awkward keyboard functions of wireless devices, Lava2140, LLC, a
wireless solutions provider, and InternetSpeech, an Internet
voice-recognition provider, have combined their efforts to offer a
voice recognition solution for accessing the Wireless Internet.
At the heart of the solution is the integration of InternetSpeech’s
netECHO™ into Lava2140’s suite of SMS- and WAP-based
applications, enabling the user to access information by using the
wireless keypad or voice commands. Users are not restricted to
pre-set Web content, such as stock quotes and weather reports, but
can access the entire Web. Even users of non-data-capable or
browser-enabled phones can browse the Internet as the information is
read to them.
Commenting on the benefits of voice access, Lava2140’s CEO Linh
Tang, said, "Giving the wireless user the option of both
keystroke and voice-based access information helps streamline the
current complexity of wireless device applications" and will
push wireless devices into the mainstream.
"Wireless carriers now can offer end users direct voice
access to critical corporate and personal data, simply by talking
into their cellphone or by using a mobile device," commented
Dr. Emdad Khan, president of and chief executive officer of
InternetSpeech.
The companies have not yet disclosed a release date.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Voice
was the first and most natural interface for human interaction.
It is fitting to adopt it for man-Internet interaction. It is
not efficient but easy to use and for some a simpler interface.
