All-in-one handsets from
Motorola are loaded with productivity tools and the latest games for
those mobile users who want one device for work and play.
The two new handset models, i85s and the i50sx, are the first in
a new line of Java devices that will be available through the iDEN®
network. Both devices incorporate Java 2 Platform Micro Edition (J2ME™)
supporting a host of organizer applications that allow the user
to schedule meetings in the phone’s date book, submit an expense
report to the office, use two-way messaging to keep in touch with
family and friends, or play a Sega game to pass the time.
What makes the i85s attractive to the business user are its
personalization features such as adjusting the settings depending on
where the user finds themselves—at home, at the office, or in the
car. Using the voice recognition features, the user could activate
the phone’s VibraCall® alert to filter through only important
calls.
Preinstalled applications including the Sega game, Borkov™ are
ideal for those moments when a little fun time is called for.
Besides working with Sega, the company has already announced
alliances with Bonita and HiddenMind and expects to be offering
additional games including a few that offer wireless group play.
"With Java technology integrated into the innovative design
of the i85s and i50sx handsets, mobile users will be able to enjoy
new, exciting downloadable services," said George Paolini, vice
president, technology advocacy and marketing at Sun Microsystems.
The Illinois-based company said it would be introducing an iDEN
Web site that will allow users to personalize their handsets with
the latest applications such as a notepad, calculators, and games.
