Pointsec Technology To Extend Palm Security Products
To meet the growing demand
for security solutions from the corporate sector, Pointsec Mobile
Technologies, Inc. has released its security software for the Palm
OS. In the wake of the deployment of a large numbers of PDA devices
in the corporate sector, Pointsec’s technology is seen by many as
a critical step forward in the enforcement of security policies.
What sets Pointsec apart from other security technologies is that
it encrypts everything on the device, not just a few applications.
In addition, the security product enables the secure transfer of
information from a PDA to a PC or laptop, the company said.
Key Features of the Pointsec for Palm OS
- Mandatory Access Control and Advanced User Authentication
- Secures access to the entire device
- Provides graphical or numerical login PINs that appear in
random order when the device is powered up, to prevent login
codes from being copied
- Transparent User Interaction
- Encrypts and decrypts selected data of Pointsec Ready
applications automatically and transparently
- Reduces lag time Significantly
- Authenticated HotSync and Infrared Security
- Places the sync controls on the device rather than the PC,
preventing password from being captured during sync or data
transfer
- Prompts the user, via HotSync button, to enter PIN, thus
enabling only the authorized user to transfer data
- PointSafe Encrypts Personal Data on Palm OS Devices
- Organizes and automatically encrypts confidential data
- Provides secure storage for personal data such as credit
card information, passwords, addresses, and telephone numbers
The company plans to extend the security solution to Windows CE
and EPOC operating systems later this year.
