The byline for LightSurf
of Santa Cruz, CA., should be ‘A Picture is a Thousand Words.’
Capitalizing on the explosive convergence of wireless technology,
digital media, and the Internet, the company is offering people a
new way to communicate by exchanging digital images in real-time.
In an effort to enhance and expand its MMS solutions, the company
has introduced the LightSurf MediaExchange server that delivers MMS
solutions allowing users to take a photo, attach it to a text
message, and instantly share that moment with anyone in the world,
regardless of device or network. Built on its LightSurf Technology
Platform and image transcoding technology, the MediaExchange server
offers MMS solution operators and wireless operators the capability
to offer compelling multimedia services.
The company says the technology behind the MediaExchange server
is based on a design that allows for unlimited scalability and high
availability. The imaging server architecture is highly optimized to
support tens of millions of image transformations per server per
day.
"LightSurf’s open technology platform enables MMS vendors
to rapidly deploy and offer enhanced MMS services on existing
wireless networks as well as 2.5/GPRS and 3G networks," said
Philippe Kahn, chairman and CEO of LightSurf.
"LightSurf’s MediaExchange will deliver the compelling
peer-to-peer multimedia functionality that wireless carriers and
handset manufacturers have been asking for," said Lia Schubert,
research analyst with InfoTrends Research Group. "In doing so,
the company will spur further usage of already-popular messaging
services and drive demand for wireless images and MMS
services."
